Supporting Sustainable Communities
We support clean and renewable energy resources in our electric aggregation.
We educate our community officials, residents, and small businesses on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
We advocate for legislation and administration of Ohio's utilities to make it even easier and more affordable to be sustainable.
Since 2017, NOPEC has provided a standard default electric program price product exceeding the Ohio Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) minimum requirements. NOPEC residential and small business customers can also choose to individually sign up for a number of other NOPEC offers, including 1- and 2-year fixed-term products including Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for 100% of energy usage.
As a result, NOPEC has retired more than 8.35 million EarthEra RECs, which represents the environmental attributes associated with the generation of more than 8.35 million MWhs of renewable energy — enough electricity to power ~800,000 average Ohio residential homes for an entire year.1
(1) EIA published data from forms EIA-861- schedules 4A-D, EIA-861S and EIA-861U. 2019 Average Residential Ohio monthly consumption 874 kWh (or 0.87 MWh)
Reduce your carbon footprint and live a greener life with one of NOPEC's 100% renewable electricity products.
Promote sustainable energy in your workplace by enrolling in a NOPEC 100% renewable electricity product.
The NOPEC Green Community Choice Program allows new and existing NOPEC communities to enroll in a default 100% renewable electric aggregation product. If interested, please notify NOPEC of your enrollment in the program by December 31, 2021, for the upcoming 3-year NOPEC electric enrollment (January 2023 - December 2026).
Community Programming & Energy Efficiency Initiatives
NOPEC Preferred Pricing Green Energy Program
The NOPEC Preferred Pricing Green Energy Program is an opportunity for NOPEC communities to buy 100% green and renewable electricity, via 100% renewable energy credits, for their municipal loads at cost. It's our absolute best pricing, and it can serve as a building block for a much larger sustainability agenda.
In 2021, the City of Lakewood became the first community to take advantage of the program and supply all its municipal facilities and streetlights with 100% green and renewable energy, via 100% renewable energy credits.
Green Ribbon Award
The NOPEC Green Ribbon Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of member communities that have completed projects to reduce their municipality's energy footprint.
Investing in Sustainability & Economic Development
NOPEC Energized Community Grant
The NOPEC Energized Community (NEC) Grant is a funding opportunity available to all NOPEC member communities to help them increase energy efficiency and upgrade energy infrastructure. Since 2010, NOPEC has awarded approximately $40 million in energy-efficiency grants to our member communities.
Energy Efficiency Financing
Up-front, fixed-rate financing options for energy-efficiency projects allows commercial property owners to use the savings generated by improvements to help pay back the loan.
Together, we're building a brighter future.
- Maintain robust and fair deregulated retail energy markets in Ohio.
- Ensure competitive, diverse and resilient generation.
- Restore impactful renewable energy standards.
- Eliminate guaranteed recovery of revenues for electric utilities regardless of weather or economic conditions.
- Support policies that are fair to all Ohio utility consumers.
