Supporting Sustainable Communities

Your sustainability goals, simplified.

The Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) has been a leading innovator in coalitions solving problems in the energy economy for over 20 years. We currently serve over 200 member communities in 20 Ohio counties and source energy for hundreds of thousands residential utility and small business utility accounts. We also provide member communities a variety of benefit programs to enhance the life of their residents and the vitality of their businesses by providing resources for small commercial entities and municipalities to reduce their overall carbon footprint and lower their energy costs.

Our Mission

NOPEC's Commitment to Sustainability

We are extremely proud of our collective organizational efforts to support sustainability and renewable energy development and very excited to offer more options and resources for our member communities to do the same.

NOPEC residential and small business customers can choose to sign up for a number of sustainable NOPEC offers, including 1- and 2-year fixed-term products with Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for 100% of energy usage.

NOPEC has retired more than 9.65 million EarthEra RECs, which represents the environmental attributes associated with the generation of more than 9.65 million MWhs of renewable energy — enough electricity to power ~900,000 average Ohio residential homes for an entire year.1

Together, we're building a brighter future.

At NOPEC, we believe sustainability goals should focus on Environmental Social Governance (ESG) - Environmental protection, Social strength and welfare of our communities, and through strong Governance that is fair and accountable to its citizens. That's why we actively advocate for consumer-friendly legislation and utility regulatory policies at the Ohio Statehouse, fighting to shape the state's energy policies in order to:
  1. Maintain robust and fair deregulated retail energy markets in Ohio.
  2. Ensure competitive, diverse and resilient generation.
  3. Restore impactful renewable energy standards.
  4. Eliminate guaranteed recovery of revenues for electric utilities regardless of weather or economic conditions.
  5. Support policies that are fair to all Ohio utility consumers.
