NOPEC Green Community Choice Program
The Green Community Choice Program enables communities to support 100% renewable energy initiatives through their default electric aggregation program. All eligible residents ad small businesses within Green Community Choice communities are automatically enrolled into the 100% Renewable Standard Program Price option for their electricity supplied through NOPEC unless they choose one of our other program options. The electricity supplied through this program is backed by 100% Renewable Energy Credits (RECs).
Green Community Choice FAQs
Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) represent the environmental attributes associated with 1 megawatt-hour of electricity generated by a renewable energy source, such as wind or solar energy. RECs provide a convenient and effective way to support renewable energy, offset carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the development of renewable energy resources.
The following communities are participating in this program: South Euclid, Lakewood, Cleveland Heights, and Sheffield Village.

NOPEC is a governmental energy aggregation that supplies electricity and natural gas to hundreds of thousands of residential and small business customers in over 240 member communities in 20 Ohio counties.
Since 2001, NOPEC has saved their customers hundreds of millions of dollars on their energy costs, provided education opportunities for Ohio students and residents, awarded millions in community energy-efficiency grants, and helped protect Ohio consumers by advocating for consumer-friendly energy policies.
Since 2017, NOPEC has retired more than 12 million EarthEra© RECs, which represents the environmental attributes associated with the generation of more than 12 million MWhs of renewable electricity. In addition, NextEra contributes a portion of the NOPEC aggregation revenues to the EarthEra© Renewable Energy Trust. Funds are used to develop NextEra renewable energy projects in the United States, including Ohio. Since 2017, NextEra has contributed over $136 million from NOPEC's aggregation programs into the EarthEra© Trust.
