Q&A with Molly Lucas

Meet NOPEC's new HR & Operations Manager

Molly Lucas

HR & Operations Manager

Describe your prior experience working in the nonprofit, government, and/or public service fields.

I’ve had the privilege of serving in both government/public service and nonprofit sectors. I spent two years as a Workforce Specialist with the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services, where I partnered with employers across Cuyahoga County to develop customized workforce plans tailored to their business needs. This included providing labor market insights, supporting recruitment efforts, managing job postings, and connecting businesses with valuable programs and services. It was a role that blended strategy with service, helping strengthen the local workforce and support economic development. In addition, I served for nearly a decade as a board member for Blessing House, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe shelter and support for children in crisis. My time there reinforced the power of mission-driven work and the importance of strong organizational leadership in delivering meaningful services.

These experiences will influence how I approach my role at NOPEC - with a deep respect for service, collaboration, and the communities we support.

Why did you decide to join the NOPEC team?

I’ve always been intentional about where I work. I don’t move around often, and I was looking for a place where I could truly see myself long term. When I learned about NOPEC’s mission to serve communities through energy aggregation, education, and advocacy, I knew it aligned with my values.

Joining NOPEC gave me the opportunity to make a meaningful impact both at work and in the community. I’m excited to be part of a team that’s committed to public service, and I look forward to contributing to NOPEC’s continued growth and the well-being of the communities we serve.

Describe your role at NOPEC and how you hope to help NOPEC communities in the future.

As NOPEC’s Human Resources & Operations Manager, I’m proud to serve behind the scenes to help our organization run smoothly, ethically, and with heart. My role bridges people and process—I support our team by managing HR functions, streamlining operations, and fostering a workplace culture rooted in integrity, collaboration, and service.

At NOPEC, we exist to serve over 240 member communities across Northeast Ohio. My goal is to ensure our internal systems and team are empowered to do just that—serve. Whether it’s improving employee engagement, refining operational practices, or supporting our leadership, I’m here to help NOPEC deliver on its mission to aggregate, educate, and advocate for the communities we represent.

Looking ahead, I’m committed to helping NOPEC grow stronger from the inside so we can continue making a meaningful impact on the outside.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends, staying active, reading, and giving back through volunteer work. Whether it’s going for a walk, diving into a good book, joining a workout class, or lending a hand in the community, I find joy in staying connected to people, purpose, and wellness. These moments help me recharge and stay grounded, so I can bring my best self to both my personal life and my role at NOPEC.
