Don't Fall for Energy Scams:

NOPEC Never Goes Door-to-Door

Beware of Door-to-Door Scammers Posing as NOPEC

We've received multiple reports from Ohio residents about individuals going door-to-door acting as NOPEC representatives.

These solicitors are wearing NOPEC-branded apparel and claiming to be NOPEC employees, attempting to get people to show them their utility bills or click on suspicious links.

Important Reminders

  • NOPEC never goes door-to-door or cold calls/texts. If someone comes to your door claiming to be from NOPEC, it is a scam.
  • Never show anyone a copy of your utility bill. This is a common tactic used by scammers to steal your information.

If you think you've been a victim of a utility scam:

  • Contact the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) immediately by calling 800-686-7826 or by submitting an online complaint
  • If you live in a NOPEC community, contact NOPEC's 24/7 Customer Care Center at 855-667-3201 to report it and verify the status of your account.

Residents in some communities can sign up for the Do Not Knock program.

With frequent reports of misleading and aggressive door-to-door solicitors, the Do Not Knock program helps protect you by preventing for-profit solicitors from even knocking on your door.

First, check to see if you live in a Do Not Knock community. Then, if you do, fill out the form to sign up. After you sign up, your address will be added to a list of homes and businesses that for-profit solicitors are not allowed to visit and you'll receive two free Do Not Knock window clings in the mail to place near your front door to remind solicitors they are not welcome.
