5 Ways You Know it's Time to Replace Your HVAC System
By Andrew Triner on June 19, 2019
HVAC systems are a big investment for anyone looking to have a clean and temperate home. While no one wants to spend the kind of money required to get a new HVAC system, at some point, it will need to be replaced. Here’s a list of five signs to look for that tell you it may be time to get a new HVAC system:
Your Energy Bills are Higher Than Usual
While your energy bill will certainly not be the same month to month, high energy costs could be a sign that your HVAC system needs to be replaced. More than half of a homeowner’s bill goes towards their heating and cooling costs. If you are noticing a higher than usual bill, then it may be time to get your HVAC checked out, especially if your system is old.
Your System is More Than 10 Years Old
HVAC systems can last anywhere up to 20 years if taken care of properly. However, the average system will start to show some signs of wear-and-tear by the time it is 10 years old. If you don’t want the financial burden of constantly calling a repairman each time you have an issue, then you may want to consider biting the bullet and buying a new one. Chances are in the long run, buying a new HVAC will save you money, and your house will be guaranteed to be temperate and clear.
It Constantly Needs Repairs
HVAC systems don't last forever, and over time they will malfunction. It is important to keep up with the needs of the system, but after multiple repair visits, you may find that repair costs are taking a toll on your wallet. If this is the case, consider buying a new system. Sure, it will cost you money in the short term-but long-term you should notice a major downgrade in how much you’re spending on repairs.
Your Home is Filled with Dust
No one likes a home filled with unwanted dirt and dust. An outdated HVAC system can release these things into the air causing your home to constantly be a mess. If you notice this is the case, replace your system for a cleaner and clearer home.
You Notice Loud Sounds
If you’re hearing strange noises coming from your HVAC system it most likely is not just a ghost. Old or malfunctioning HVAC systems often make loud and unusual sounds. Get your system checked immediately to see what the issue is, and whether its time to get a new system altogether.Tags: Energy Tips, NOPEC, Energy Efficiency
